New research is pointing us in a whole new direction regarding the health of the brain and how dysfunction in the body leads to dysfunction in the brain. It all starts in the gut where poor digestion, leaky gut, hidden food allergies, and toxicity lead to many of the symptoms we previously thought were “all in our heads”.
Functional Medicine seeks to find and resolve the root causes in the body that lead to problems in the brain. These might include, but are not limited to poor digestion, an imbalance in intestinal flora, parasites, yeast overgrowth, SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth), hormonal imbalances, heavy metal toxicity, food allergies, nutritional deficiencies, etc. All of these conditions lead to a low grade chronic inflammatory process that affects the body and the brain. If your body is on fire, so is your brain.
